Masterclass: RuleGPT

Franz Dias

Founder - Meeple Labs

18 April 2026

RuleGPT was created as a specialised assistant built on OpenAI’s GPT framework with a clear focus on rulebook drafting, editing, and writing. It helps designers structure their rules, improve clarity, identify gaps or ambiguities, and iterate more efficiently — while keeping all game design decisions fully in the hands of the designer.

In this workshop, Franz will introduce RuleGPT and demonstrate how it can be used as a practical tool to support the rule writing process, helping designers create clearer, more usable rulebooks that improve the player onboarding experience.

This masterclass is only for Game Makers 2026.

Game Makers 2026 is the first edition - it is a space to design, test, showcase and celebrate original tabletop games. The contest culminates in a 2 day Game Makers Mela - a festival celebrating board game design and showcasing new and upcoming games from Indian game designers.

Anyone who loves designing games!

Students, Hobby designers, First-time creators, and seasoned game makers are all welcome.

We encourage you to form a 2 person team. Individual submissions shall be accepted, however two heads are always better than one.

Yes.

Absolutely yes!

Please refer to The Prizes

Our ultimate goal is to put your game into the hands of players across the country!

Absolutely! We believe in setting everyone up for success.

If your idea is selected, you will be assigned to one of our amazing mentors who will interact with you at selected touch points to help you validate your thoughts.

Meet our mentors

We will also be hosting a number of free and paid workshops throughout the different phases of the Game Makers contest, on a variety of game design topics, led by game design experts across India. You are welcome to join any or all workshops of your choice.

Not at all. All you need is a strong concept idea when you apply. You will have approximately 6 months to imagine, develop, build and test your game.

The Game Makers Contest does not need professionally printed or manufactured game prototypes. Art and Graphic Design are not a part of the evaluation and scoring criteria for the final selections. For prototypes, we encourage you to use everyday objects repurposed and upcycled for prototyping purposes - old bottle tops, erasers cut in various shapes, hand made cards, cardboard, anything you feel would work for you. We will be happy to work with your handmade prototypes.

You will need

  • The story that your game tells its players
  • The chosen theme prompt for your game
  • Your interpretation of the prompt
  • Game duration criteria
  • Filled out concept proposal
  • Basic game overview
  • Target audience

Here are some examples.

Also, while submitting the application form, you will need to provide a proof of payment for the application fees. Full submission guidelines will be available in the application form.

Game Makers is dedicated to physical tabletop games. We do not accept games which require electronic interaction.

Game Makers Mela is a 2 day festival held at the culmination of the Game Makers contest. Game Makers Mela 2026 shall be held in Ahmedabad on the 15th and 16th of August. Game Makers Mela is for all designers showcasing their finished game prototypes. Here is a short list of the activities planned at the Game Makers Mela

  • Game showcases
  • Play testing sessions with Mela attendees
  • Mentor feedback
  • Final Jury evaluation
  • Community networking with game designers, mentors, experts and publishers
  • Awards presentation

Selected games from Game Makers Contest shall be chosen for publication. Participating teams who wish to opt in for their game to be published shall receive financial assistance from Game Makers towards publication.

Game Makers will offer to connect selected participating teams with publishers, artists and graphic designers. However participants are open to working with any individuals or organisations they prefer.

Game Makers does not undertake any game manufacturing, publishing, designing or marketing activities. We are a non-profit volunteer driven contest, solely aimed at catalysing new tabletop games emerging from Indian designers.

No. Your game will solely be yours.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a hotly debated topic when it comes to any form of design. Here are a few guidelines to help you make the right choice

  • You may use AI tools the same way as you may use an electronic calculator when solving mathematical problems. Simply put, a calculator can assist you with numerical calculations. It cannot solve your problem on its own.
  • Any content generated by AI cannot be claimed as one's own intellectual property. Copyright protects only "the fruits of intellectual labour that are founded in the creative powers of the mind". It is limited to "original intellectual conceptions of the author". Be judicious in your use of AI. Our mentors and jury may discontinue working with you if excessive AI use is observed.

Your game will still be a prototype at the end of the Game Makers Contest. We encourage you to publish your game in the subsequent months, and you are very welcome to sell your game in any of the upcoming game events across the country, notably Unboxed Game Fest and TTOX.
